If you like the idea of downloading music for free, and if you don’t mind the thought of being on the fence when it comes to the particular legalities of your music acquisition, then you’ve probably used LimeWire in the past. Over 50% of the people who have ever shared music have used the LimeWire client, so you’re definitely in good company.
If this is you, then the news that this is all going to be consigned to the annals of history will come as a bit of a shock, no doubt. A shock tinged with much sadness, no doubt. This is, in a very real sense, the end of an era.
If its any consolation, then remember that this wasn’t the way that LimeWire would’ve wanted things. They’ve just lost a big legal battle against the RIAA, and are facing many more against various friends of the RIAA. The publishing companies across American appear to be united against LimeWire, and there’s nothing that they can do about it.
So this is where the big drive to go legitimate comes in. We wish LimeWire the very best in their efforts, of course we do. We don’t rate their chances, though. Sorry LimeWire. It’s been a good run while it lasted.
